About this Newsletter
The short version: This Newsletter sends you a simple, skim-able email each time the federal government opens a new funding opportunity from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Inflation Reduction Act, and the CHIPS and Science Act.
The long(er) version: The Biden-Harris administration has passed a series of significant spending packages in the last year. In November 2021 the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) was passed into law, authorizing $1.2T for a broad array of infrastructure programs across the county. In August 2022, the administration passed the $437B Inflation Reduction Act and the $280B CHIPS and Science Act which provided further funding for climate, healthcare, semiconductors, and R&D. While these spending packages create an unparalleled opportunity for cities, counties, states, and other localities to fund important local projects, the rollout of these laws poses considerable challenges. Funding opportunities are allocated across hundreds of different programs, deployed by different federal agencies (e.g., DOT, DOE), each of which have their own application processes, requirements, and deadlines. Moreover, the funding comes in a variety of different mediums (e.g., formula grants, competitive grants, tax incentives, loans). This labyrinth of funding programs makes it difficult for individual states, cities, counties, public authorities, nonprofits, and other recipients to understand, apply for, receive, and ultimately deploy these funds in a way that truly maximizes their effect locally.
This tracker is designed to help cities, states, counties, nonprofits, foundations, and other entities with an interest in ensuring their locality receives and deploys its funding most effectively. This tracker will send you an update each time that the federal government releases the details of a new funding opportunity through the Infrastructure Law, the Inflation Reduction Act, or the CHIPS and Science Act. It provides a simple, skim-able update with all the top-line information you need (e.g., amount of $, who can apply, deadlines). This will help ensure that you do not miss any important funding opportunities and can ensure that your locality gets, at the very least, “it’s share of the pie.” We will make all efforts to send updates within 72 hours of a new program announcement, and will periodically provide other context, tips, and analysis. This tracker is managed by a former state and city economic development manager.
Why Subscribe?
Subscribe to get updated emails when new funding opportunities are announced (usually with 72 hours!) as well as a full list of funding opportunities that have been announced since late June 2022. Free subscribers will receive an email that a new opportunity was released, but no information about which program it is. These posts will be unlocked for free subscribers about 2-4 weeks later.
Is this Tracker Legit?
Yes. Or at least, it strives to be. This newsletter was created and is currently managed by a former city and state economic development manager - primarily out of frustration that a similar tool did not exist. I track and make these updates manually and therefore deeply appreciate paid subscribers if you are able.
