Opportunity: Collaborative Wildfire Risk Program
Overview and Eligible: The Collaborative Wildfire Risk Reduction Program will use hazardous fuels funds from the Inflation Reduction Act to treat areas outside the 21 priority landscapes in high-risk wildfire areas where national forests and grasslands meet homes and communities, known as the Wildland-Urban Interface. The program allows national forests, in collaboration with Tribes, communities and partners in 24 qualifying states to build local capacity for projects to reduce wildfire risk and improve forest health to protect communities, infrastructure, water quality and adjacent landowners.
Amount: In 2024, $100 million has been allocated to expand wildfire risk reduction efforts beyond the 21 designated areas under the Collaborative Wildfire Risk Reduction Program.
The program is a part of a $500 million effort to to expand work on the USDA Forest Service’s Wildfire Crisis Strategy through the Inflation Reduction Act.

Eligible Applicants: Criteria for eligible areas/projects in these 24 qualifying states include: areas outside the 21 wildfire crisis landscapes on National Forest System lands and/or areas with very high wildfire hazard potential.
