Opportunity: USDA Forest Service 2024 Wood Innovations and Community Wood Funding Opportunities
Overview and Eligible Uses: The Wood Innovations program aims to stimulate, expand, and support markets for U.S. wood products and wood energy to reduce forest fire fuels in the Forest Service system, reduce forest management costs, and promote environmental and economic health. The program provides funding for a range of innovative projects utilizing wood for construction, manaufacturing, and energy generation.
The Community Wood program aims to “support forest health and stimulate local economies by expanding renewable wood energy use and innovative wood products manufacturing capacity.” Examples of projects funded under this opportunity are those that expand wood energy use for heating, cooling, or electricity; expand capacity at mass timber manufacturing facilities; and expand wood-based biofuel production capacity.
Amount: A total of $20M is available under the Wood Innovations opportunity. In most cases, the maximum Wood Innovations award is $300k.
$6M is available for the Community Wood Program, with maximum awards of $1M.
