USDA announces $17M for the Community Wood Energy and Wood Innovation Program (CWEWIP)

Opportunity: 2023 Community Wood Energy and Wood Innovation Program
Overview and Eligible Uses: The USDA Forest Service is delivering the Community Wood Energy and Wood Innovation Program (CWEWIP) to support the installation of thermally led community wood energy systems or the development and expansion of innovative wood product facilities. Funding is intended for “shovel-ready” projects that will not require additional funding or time after the award period.
Eligible projects include, but are not limited to the purchase/installation of:
Thermally led community wood energy systems.
Manufacturing equipment for mass timber production facilities,
Sawmills that incorporate innovative technologies
Equipment to produce biofuels from forest residues.
Amount: $17M in total awards for a maximum of $1M per grant (paying up to 35% of total capital costs).
Award Type: Discretionary
Eligible Applicants: Non-profits; local, state, and tribal governments; businesses, companies, corporations (for profit); institutions of higher education; and special purpose districts (public utility districts, fire districts, conservation districts, school districts, and ports.)
Key Dates: Applications are due by March 23, 2023.
