NOAA Opens $3.6M for Collaborative Research and Community Engagement Projects to Improve Climate Adaptation Planning and Action

Overview and Eligible Uses: This program supports collaborative research and community engagement projects that improve climate adaptation planning and action.
This initiative supports NOAA activities within the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). Outcomes of projects funded by this opportunity include 1) generating new, locally relevant knowledge and strategies to reduce risks from flooding and wildfire in frontline communities, 2) testing and evaluating the scalability and transferability of existing methods of engagement and/or approaches for integrating social and interdisciplinary knowledge into climate adaptation planning for flooding and wildfire, and 3) piloting new methods of engagement and/or approaches for integrating social and interdisciplinary knowledge into climate adaptation planning for flooding and wildfire.
Amount: NOAA intends to make approximately 12 awards in three competitions totaling approximately $3.6M:
Improving Engagement Methods for Coastal Resilience Planning (2-4 awards of up to $500,000 each; approximately $800,000 total)
Assessing Tradeoffs and Co-Benefits for Complex Decision-Making in Communities Facing Coastal Inundation and/or Inland Flooding (3-5 awards of up to $475,000 each; approximately $1,870,000 total)
Identifying Complex Interactions between Social Infrastructure and Wildfire Risks to Improve Community Adaptive Capacity (2-3 awards of up to $475,000 each; approximately $930,000 total)

Eligible Applicants: Existing Climate Adaptation Partnerships (CAP)/Regional Integrated Science and Assessments (RISA) program teams.
