NOAA Opens $2.4M for Research Into Drivers of Coastal Inundation

Opportunity: Earth System Science and Modeling Research for Coastal Inundation
Overview and Eligible Uses: This competition funds research to inform understanding and models of contributors to average and extreme levels of coastal inundation. Projects funded under this competition will inform future versions of coastal flooding observations and national prediction and projection systems. Projects should align with the goals identified in “A NOAA Capability for Coastal Flooding and Inundation Information and Services at Climate Timescales to Reduce Risk and Improve Resilience”
The IIJA dedicated $492M to NOAA’s coastal and inland flood mapping, forecasting, and water modeling programs over 5 years.
Amount: NOAA intends to fund 4 to 6 projects up to a maximum of $250,000 per year for 3 years. NOAA anticipates a total of $2.4M in funding available for the competition.
Award Type: Discretionary grant
Eligible Applicants: Higher education institutions and other nonprofits, commercial organizations, international organizations, and state, local and Indian tribal governments
Key Dates: Letters of intent are due by January 27, 2023. Full applications should be submitted by March 17, 2023.
