USDA Announces New $1B Wildfire Defense Grant Opportunity

Opportunity: Community Wildfire Defense Grant Program (USDA)
Overview and Eligible Uses: The purpose of the Community Wildfire Defense Grant Program is to assist at-risk local communities and Indian Tribes with planning and mitigating against the risk created by wildfire. There are two different types of eligible projects:
The development and revision of Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPP)
The implementation of projects described in a CWPP that is less than 10 years old.
Amount: Grants up to $250,000 for community wildfire protection plans (match of 10% required); grants of up to $10M for infrastructure or resilience projects (match of 25% required). Total funding for the program is $1B.
Award Type: Competitive grant
Eligible Applicants: Local governments, Indian Tribes, non-profit organizations, State forestry agencies, Alaska Native Corporations
Key Dates: Applications will go live in the coming days; application deadline has yet to be announced
