HHS Announces Intent to Open Applications for $3.2M Community Economic Development Grants Focused on Energy Communities

Opportunity: Community Economic Development Grants Focused on Energy Communities (Department of Health and Human Services)
Overview and Eligible Uses: Projects can include the creation or expansion of business(es) that reduce emissions of toxins or greenhouse gases from existing and abandoned infrastructure, or focus on businesses that prevent environmental harm. The grants are intended to support employment, economic development, and help build a clean energy workforce. Eligible projects must be located in and serve energy communities, defined as “communities that have either experienced employment loss and/or economic dislocation events as a result of declines in the fossil fuel industry and/or are disproportionately reliant on fossil fuel energy production or distribution, including coal, oil, gas, and power plant communities across the country.”
Amount: HHS will issue up to 4 awards worth $100,000 to $800,000 for a total of $3.2M

Eligible Applicants: Private, non-profit community development corporations (CDCs) with 501c3 status
Key Dates: Applications will open on January 27, 2023 and will be due by April 28, 2023
