FRA Announces $5.8M for the Interstate Rail Compacts (IRC) Program

Opportunity: Interstate Rail Compacts Grant Program
Overview and Eligible Uses: Eligible expenses under this NOFO must be related to intercity passenger rail service to be operated by Amtrak. Eligible expenses include costs of administration, systems planning, promotion of intercity passenger rail operation, preparation of applications for competitive federal grant programs, and operations coordination among states and with shared freight operations.
Amount: Up to $5,815,800 in funding is available for awards under this NOFO, with the possibility of additional funds being awarded later. Grants are capped at $1,000,000 per year and a maximum of 10 awards per fiscal year.

Entities implementing Interstate Rail Compacts pursuant to section 410 of the Amtrak Reform and Accountability Reform Act of 1997 (49 U.S.C. 24101 note)
Under section 410, Congress granted advance consent to States to enter into Interstate Rail Compacts in order to promote intercity passenger rail service. Entities implementing Interstate Rail Compacts means an existing entity, such as a commission, established by member states to implement the Interstate Rail Compact.
