Opportunity: Ensuring Environmental Justice, Human Wellbeing, and Ecosystem Recovery in Puget Sound
Overview and Eligible Uses: The Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) announces the availability of funds to advance environmental justice (EJ) in the restoration and recovery of Puget Sound. The successful applicant will collaborate with communities, key partners, Strategic Initiative Leads (SILs), Tribes, and others involved in the Puget Sound Management Conference, as outlined in the 2022 Puget Sound Action Agenda. The program aims to direct resources and environmental benefits toward overburdened and underserved communities adversely affected by environmental and health risks. This initiative seeks to integrate EJ principles into long-term Puget Sound restoration and recovery efforts.
Funding from this NOFO is intended for:
Establishing a support program consisting of subawards and other forms of assistance
Advancing EJ in the restoration and recovery of the Puget Sound ecosystem and its communities
Providing environmental and community benefits through projects and activities
Supporting the Puget Sound restoration and recovery process
Enhancing resource capacity and assistance for communities, subawardees, and other entities involved in EJ efforts
Amount: $7 million in total program funding, with $4 million available the first year. 1 award is expected.
Award Type: Cooperative Agreement
Eligible Applicants:
Federal government agencies and Washington State government agencies
Public and private institutions of higher education in the U.S.
Units of local government in the Greater Puget Sound basin.
Special purpose districts (e.g., irrigation, water, and sewer districts) in the Greater Puget Sound basin.
Conservation districts in the Greater Puget Sound basin.
Watershed planning units formed under RCW 90.82.040 and RCW 90.82.060.
Local management boards under RCW 90.88.030.
Salmon recovery lead entities under RCW 77.850.
Regional fisheries enhancement groups under RCW 77.95.060.
Marine Resource Committees under RCW 36.125.010 and RCW 36.125.020.
Intrastate organizations such as associations of cities, counties, or conservation districts in the Greater Puget Sound basin.
Nonprofit nongovernmental entities (as defined under 2 C.F.R. § 200.1).
Federally recognized tribes in the Greater Puget Sound basin and consortia of these tribes (with proper documentation).
