EPA Announces $96M for Chesapeake Bay Program – Small Watershed and Nutrient & Sediment Reduction

Opportunity: Chesapeake Bay Program Office Fiscal Year 2023 Request for Applications for: Small Watershed Grants Program and Innovative Nutrient and Sediment Reduction Program Funded by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act
Overview and Eligible Uses: This program aims to support efforts to restore and protect the natural resources and water quality of the Chesapeake Bay and its watershed. EPA is seeking projects that support one of three Activities:
Activity 1: Community Capacity Building – Small Watershed Grants
Increase efficacy of frontline organizations that protect and restore local watersheds by addressing organizational capacity needs in order to bolster watershed health
Activity 2: Planning, Assistance, and Implementation – Small Watershed Grants
Support community-based efforts to develop and implement conservation and restoration strategies to protect the natural resources of local watersheds
Activity 3: Innovative Nutrient and Sediment Reduction Grants
Support efforts that utilize, disseminate, and institutionalize innovative strategies to accelerate sub-watershed and/or regional-scale implementation of nutrient and sediment reduction
Amount: EPA anticipates $96M in total program funding. Three agreements are expected to be awarded, one for each of the three Activities. Award amount varies by Activity, ranging from $13M to $45M.
Award Type: Cooperative agreement
Eligible Applicants: Local governments, nonprofit organizations, and individuals in the Chesapeake Bay region are eligible to apply for Activity 1 and Activity 2. Nonprofit organizations, institutions of higher education, interstate agencies, and State, tribal, and local governments are eligible to apply for Activity 3.
