EDA Opens Phase 1 of Tech Hubs Program

Opportunity: EDA Tech Hubs (Phase 1)
Overview and Eligible Uses: EDA’s Tech Hubs program aims to make place-based investments in regions to make them globally competitive within 10 years in next generation technologies and industries. There are 10 technology focus areas for the Tech Hubs competition.
The Tech Hubs competition is being run in two phases. During Phase 1, EDA will designate Tech Hubs and provide Strategy Development Grants. Strategy Development Grants will assist regions in planning for a potential implementation grant and help increase local coordination. Phase 2 will provide implementation funding for regions designated as Tech Hubs in Phase 1. Designation as a Tech Hub is a prerequisite for implementation funding in Phase 2.
Applicants may apply for designation as a Tech Hub and/or for a Strategy Development Grant
Amount: $15M will be made available for Phase 1 Strategy Development Grants, with awards expected to range between $400k and $500k.
Phase 2 Implementation awards, to be determined under a later NOFO, are expced to range between $50M and $75M

Eligible Applicants: Eligible applicants are consortia of organizations, which must include: institutions of higher education, including HBCUs/MSIs; state, tribal, or local governments; industry groups/firms in relevant sectors; economic development organizations; labor or workforce training organizations
