DOT Opens $848M for PROTECT program

Opportunity: Promoting Resilient Operations for Transformative, Efficient, and Cost-Saving Transportation (PROTECT) Program
Overview and Eligible Uses: PROTECT Grant funds climate-resilient surface transportation projects, using natural infrastructure to reduce risks. Projects should support crucial facilities and use innovative approaches, like conservation or restoration, to reduce damage and provide benefits. The PROTECT Discretionary Grant Program has four categories of funding:
Planning Grants: for developing Resilience Improvement Plans, conducting vulnerability assessments, or evacuation planning
Resilience Improvement Grants: for improving the ability of existing infrastructure to withstand natural disasters and extreme weather events.
Community Resilience and Evacuation Route Grants: for strengthening evacuation routes and access to critical destinations during emergency events.
At-Risk Coastal Infrastructure Grants: enhancing the resilience of coastal infrastructure to future risks of natural disasters and changing conditions.
Amount: A total of $848M is available under this announcement.
Of this amount, up to $45 million is available for Planning Grants; up to $638 million is available for Resilience Improvement Grants; up to $45 million is available for Community Resilience and Evacuation Route Grants; and up to $120 million is available for At-Risk Coastal Infrastructure Grants.
