Overview and Eligible Uses: The SMART Grants Program comprises two stages: Stage 1 Planning and Prototyping Grants (Stage 1 grants) and Stage 2 Implementation Grants (Stage 2 grants). It prioritizes planning, prototyping, and collaboration to advance public sector data and technology projects. Only Stage 1 recipients are eligible for Stage 2 grants. Recipients are urged to establish partnerships and refine concepts to generate comprehensive implementation reports. The program prioritizes projects benefiting safety, resiliency, equity, climate, partnerships, and integration. Successful applications align with community characteristics, emphasize data sharing while ensuring cybersecurity and privacy, promote workforce development, and allow for performance measurement and validation. Through technology interventions, the program aims to address real-world challenges and improve transportation systems and communities.

a federally recognized Tribal government,
a public transit agency or authority,
a public toll authority,
a metropolitan planning organization, or
a group of two or more eligible entities applying through a single lead applicant (Group Application).
Key Dates: Applications are due July 12, 2024 by 5:00 PM ET.
