DOT Opens $479M for Commercial Vehicle Safety Plans to Support National Safety Goals

Opportunity: Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP)
Overview and Eligible Uses: This program aims to improve the safety of commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) operating on highways in the U.S. The grant provides financial assistance to states, local governments, and other entities to implement various initiatives and activities related to CMV safety. Eligible uses include compliance reviews, safety inspections, training and education, traffic enforcement, technology development, data analysis and research, and public outreach and awareness.
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provided for a 61% increase in the amount of funding available through MCSAP grants, giving states and territories more money than ever before to support roadway safety through enhanced driver and vehicle inspections, traffic enforcement, investigations, data collection, and public education and awareness.
Amount: DOT estimates $479.2M in total program funding for this formula grant program. DOT is expecting to make 56 awards ranging from $450K to $50M.
