DOT Opens $3.4M for Rural and Tribal Assistance Pilot Program

Opportunity: Rural and Tribal Assistance Pilot Program
Overview and Eligible Uses: This program aims to improve the organizational capacity of communities that may not have available resources to evaluate and develop infrastructure projects that qualify for federal funding and financing. The program grants funds for the hiring of staff or procurement of expert firms to provide financial, technical, or legal assistance with development-phase transportation infrastructure projects in rural and tribal communities. Projects should be reasonably expected to be eligible for USDOT credit and grant programs.
Amount: DOT anticipates $3.4M in total program funding for the first 2 years of the program and 14 awards. Award size will range from $150k to either $320k for FY 2022 funds or $360k for FY 2023 funds.
Award Type: Discretionary grant
Eligible Applicants: City or township, county, or state government, Native American tribal governments, and the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands are eligible to apply. Proposed projects should be reasonably expected to be eligible for one of DOT’s lending or grant programs.
Key Dates: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. The application window opens August 14, 2023 and closes September 27, 2023.
