Opportunity: Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) Program
Overview and Eligible Uses: The CRISI program supports safety, efficiency, and reliability improvement projects for intercity passenger and freight rail.
A wide range of project types are eligible for funding, including safety and security improvements, capital projects, R&D, multimodal connection improvements, and workforce development, among others.
Amount: A total of $2.478B is available under this opportunity, including set-asides for rural, intercity passenger rail, anti-trespassing, magnetic levitation (MAGLEV), and workforce development projects. There are no minimum or maximum award sizes, but FRA encourages applications for funding of $1M or more.
Award Type: Grants and cooperative agreements
Eligible Applicants: A range of entity types are eligible, including states (and groups thereof), Tribes, and political subdivisions of states; intercity rail providers and Class II/Class III railroads; the Transportation Research Board; university transportation centers; and nonprofit labor organizations.
