Overview and Eligible Uses: The purpose of the Grant is to assist states with the development and implementation of a state process for informing motor vehicle owners and lessees of open motor vehicle recalls when presented for registration.
Grants will support States in developing a methodology for determining open recalls on motor vehicles, informing owners and lessees of the open recalls when presented for registration, and evaluating through the analysis of completed recalls the performance of the notification program. Award Recipients must implement the notification program for a two-year period and then evaluate the results.
Amount: A total of $1.5M is available to fund these Discretionary Grant Agreements each fiscal year between FY23 and FY26 ($7.5M total). NHTSA will only accept one application from each department or office of the State responsible for motor vehicle registration.
The total number of awards and amount of funds provided to each recipient depends on proposals submitted for consideration. NHTSA may make awards to multiple states under this program.
