The BLM's Montana/Dakota Recreation and Visitor Services Program, supports a wide range of recreation-related initiatives with the aim of providing diverse opportunities and experiences while fostering strong local economies and conserving public lands. These projects include connecting with youth, tribes, and underserved communities to foster public lands stewardship, improving climate resiliency, enhancing access for nature-deprived communities, and providing an enhanced and sustainable recreational experience.
The BLM MT/DAK Cultural Heritage and Paleontology Programs seek to establish partnerships that collaboratively encourage the public to learn about and engage with heritage resources in MT/DAK, with the goals of building a meaningful conservation stewardship legacy through expanding recreation opportunities on public lands, working to ensure meaningful consultation and self-determination for Tribes, enhancing visitor experience on public lands by better meeting our infrastructure and maintenance needs, and eliminating unnecessary steps and duplicative reviews while maintaining rigorous environmental standards.
The BLM MT/DAK Environmental Quality Protection Program focuses on mitigating hazards, protecting public health and safety, and restoring watersheds for various purposes, including recreation, fish and wildlife habitat, and preservation of historical/cultural resources. The program addresses the environmental impact of extractive industry activities, particularly those related to abandoned hardrock mines, underground and surface mining, and releases of hazardous substances
