DOI Opens $20M for Slip-On Tanker Unit Acquisition
Applications are due February 26th, 2025 at 11:59PM EST
Announcement Type: Notice of Funding Opportunity (this program is accepting applications)
Opportunity: Department of Interior (DOI), Office of Wildland Fire (OWF) Slip-on Tanker Units
Overview and Eligible Uses: The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, BIL) addresses the increasing threat of wildfires driven by climate change, extreme heat, and drought. These unprecedented wildfires have overwhelmed response capabilities, resulting in significant economic losses, environmental damage, and human tragedy. To enhance community resilience and firefighting capacity, the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) has launched a pilot program under the BIL to provide financial assistance to local governments for acquiring slip-on tanker units. These units enable rapid conversion of vehicles into fire engines, bolstering local wildfire response efforts.
Funding from this program can be used to purchase slip-on tanker units. These units will allow local governments to establish or expand fleets of quickly deployable firefighting vehicles. The program specifically supports efforts to improve wildfire response capabilities and does not cover unrelated equipment, personnel costs, or other operational expenses.
