FY24 IIJA/IRA Bureau of Land Management Oregon/Washington (ORWA) Fuels Management and Community Fire Assistance Program
Overview and Eligible Uses:
BLM's Invasive and Noxious Plant Management Programs, funded through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act, address the urgent issue of invasive weed expansion on public lands. Prioritizing ecosystem health, these programs focus on prevention, detection, inventory, and control of weed populations. Supported projects target Ecosystem Restoration, resilience, and ecosystems restoration. Invasive species, if left unchecked, can permanently damage public lands, impacting native plant communities crucial for wildlife, watersheds, recreation, and economies. Collaborating with partners, the programs efficiently manage treatments, inventories, and prevention activities to control new infestations and address existing ones across multiple jurisdictions.
The Management and Community Fire assistance program aims to mitigate the risk and impact of catastrophic wildfires on local communities. Through coordinated efforts, reduction of hazardous fuels, and educational initiatives for landowners on wildfire prevention and mitigation, the program contributes to addressing the effects of climate change and fostering resilient landscapes and communities. Additionally, the initiative is designed to create job opportunities and support conservation and restoration efforts by facilitating the planning and implementation of hazardous fuels reduction projects in wildland-urban interface areas.
