DOE Opens Applications for $6B Industrial Decarbonization Program

Opportunity: Industrial Decarbonization and Emissions Reduction Demonstration-to-Deployment Program
Overview and Eligible Uses: This funding will support projects that accelerate decarbonization projects in energy-intensive industries, such as iron and steel, aluminum, cement and concrete, and other energy-intensive industrial processes, and provide American manufacturers a competitive advantage in the emerging global clean energy economy. DOE seeks first-of-a-kind or early-stage commercial-scale projects and expects to award projects from the highest emitting industries involving cross-cutting technologies that have the greatest potential, directly or indirectly, to achieve significant decarbonization domestically and globally.
This program is funded by $430M from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and $5.46B from the Inflation Reduction Act.
Amount: $6 billion in total funding. Approximately 65 awards are expected, with individual awards ranging from $35 million to $500 million.
Award Type: Cooperative agreement
Eligible Applicants:
State, county, and city or township governments
Nonprofits with or without 501(c)(3) status
Special district governments
Native American tribal governments
Public and private institutions of higher education
For profit organizations, including small businesses
Key Dates: Concept papers are due April 21, 2023 and complete applications are due August 4, 2023. Only applicants that submitted an eligible concept paper will be eligible to submit final applications.
