DOE opens applications for $350M for Advanced Energy Manufacturing and Recycling Grant Program

Opportunity: Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Advanced Energy Manufacturing and Recycling Grant Program Section 40209
Overview and Eligible Uses: The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Advanced Energy Manufacturing and Recycling Grant Program Section 40209 will provide support to establish, reequip or expand industrial facilities in eligible energy communities to produce or recycle advanced energy property. Eligible property includes equipment used to generate electrical or thermal energy from renewable resources such as solar, wind, geothermal, and hydropower, electric grid modernization equipment, carbon capture and transportation equipment, and equipment used to refine, electrolyze or blend renewable or low-carbon fuels, chemicals or products. Ineligible property includes equipment for non-renewable energy sources or non-renewable feedstocks.
Amount: $350 million in total funding, $150 million for building new facilities, and $200 million for re-equipping or expanding existing facilities. Approximately 6 to 35 awards are expected, with individual awards ranging from $10 million to $100 million.
Award Type: Cooperative agreement
Eligible Applicants: The prime recipient must be a small- or medium-sized manufacturing firm with gross annual sales of less than $100,000,000, fewer than 500 employees at the plant site, and annual energy bills totaling more than $100,000 but less than $2,500,000. The proposed project must be located in a census tract where a coal mine or coal-fired electricity generating power plant unit closed after certain dates or immediately adjacent to them.
