DOE Opens Applications for $2.5B Carbon Capture Program
The major funding opportunity is open to for-profit and nonprofit entities, state, local, and tribal governments, and individuals.

Opportunity: Storage Validation and Testing: Carbon Storage Assurance Facility Enterprise (CarbonSAFE): Phases III, III.5, and IV (Department of Energy)
Overview and Eligible Uses: For the development of new or expanded commercial large-scale carbon storage projects and associated carbon dioxide transport infrastructure. This includes funding for the feasibility, site characterization, permitting, and construction stages of project development.
Previous funding allowed for funding of the first three phases: pre-feasibility, storage complex feasibility, and site characterization and permitting projects. This FOA will focus funding on the last two phases: site characterization and permitting and construction of the storage complex.
Amount: DOE expects to release up to $2.5B over 5 years, which will be allocated across the following project phases:
Phase III: Site Characterization and Permitting: 15-40 awards between $15M and $110M each, with a 20% cost share required
Phase III.5: NEPA, FEED Studies, and Storage Field Development Plan Only: 0-10 awards between $100k and $4.5M each, with a 20% cost-share required
Phase IV: Construction: 5-20 awards between $30M and $195M each, with a 50% cost-share required
Award Type: Competitive grant
Eligible Applicants: Individuals (US citizens or permanent residents), institutions of higher education, for-profit entities, nonprofits, state and local governments, and Tribal Nations are eligible to apply.
