DOE Opens Applications for $1.2B to the Development of Four Domestic Direct Air Capture Hubs

Overview and Eligible Uses:
DOE is seeking applicants to accelerate the commercialization of carbon dioxide and demonstrate its processing, transport, safe geological storage, and conversion. Grantees will begin the process of conceptualizing, designing, planning, constructing, and operating the DAC Hubs.
Activities must include one of the following 1) earlier-stage efforts to explore the feasibility of potential DAC Hubs, 2) projects ready to pursue a front-end engineering design (FEED) study for a Hub’s initial capture capacity and supporting infrastructure, and 3) DAC Hub projects that have already completed a FEED study and are seeking support for project development for a potential Hub (the scope of DAC Hub implementation is expected to be completed through a second FOA anticipated to be released in 2024 or later).
Amount: Up to 24 awards will be made worth $3M to $5M each, for a total of $1.236B in funding.

Institutions of higher education, for-profit entities, non-profit entities, state and local governmental entities, Tribal Nations, foreign entities, incorporated consortia, and unincorporated consortia.
