DOE Opens $820M for Large-Scale Carbon Capture Pilot Projects

Opportunity: DOE Carbon Capture Large-Scale Pilot Projects
Overview and Eligible Uses: This program provides funding to pilot large-scale carbon capture technologies at industrial and electricity generating sites. The program will support projects in a phased approach. Under this program, applicants may only apply for the first phase - planning and engineering design studies - witht the opportunity to competitively advance to subsequent phases. Projects should demonstrate 90% carbon capture efficiency and 95% CO2 product purity.
IIJA appropriated $937M through FY 2025 for large-scale carbon capture pilot projects.
Amount: Up to $820M is available under this opportunity. Phase one projects are eligible for up to $6M for electricity generation facilities and up to $4M for non-generating industrial facilities. DOE anticipates making up to 10 awards under this opportunity.
Award Type: Cooperative agreement, with up to 70% federal cost share
Eligible Applicants: A range of entity types are eligible to be awardees or sub-awardees, including: state, tribal, or local governments; for-profit or nonprofit entities; institutions of higher learning; and consortia.
Key Dates: Concept papers are due April 5, 2023, and applications are due June 21, 2023 July 7, 2023 (updated 5/19/23)
