DOE Opens $45M for Silicon Solar Manufacturing & Dual-Use Photovoltaics Incubator

Opportunity: Bipartisan Infrastructure Law: Silicon Solar Manufacturing, and Dual-Use Photovoltaic Incubator
Overview and Eligible Uses: This program aims to accelerate the development and deployment of solar technology to continue the transition to a decarbonized electricity system and to bolster domestic manufacturing and supply chains. The program includes two topic areas.
Topic 1 – Pilot Demonstration of Silicon Supply Chain Components
Projects that aim to accelerate manufacturing innovation in the silicon solar module supply chain, resulting in the establishment of a network of domestic solar module manufacturers
Topic 2 – Dual-Use Photovoltaics Incubator
Research, development, and deployment projects that focus on product development and demonstrations in agricultural PV, building-integrated PV, floating PV, and vehicle-integrated PV
Amount: DOE anticipates $45M in total program funding and 12 awards. Award size will vary by topic, ranging from $400K to $30M.
Award Type: Cooperative Agreement
Eligible Applicants: For-profit entities are eligible to apply as the prime recipient. Institutions of higher education, for-profit entities, non-profit entities, state and local governmental entities, and Tribal nations are eligible to apply as subrecipients.
Key Dates: Concept papers are due September 27, 2023. Full applications are due November 14, 2023.
