DOE Opens $200M for Transmission Facilitation Program Public-Private Partnerships to Connect Microgrids

Opportunity: Department of Energy Transmission Facilitation Program (TFP) Connecting Microgrids Public-Private Partnerships
Overview and Eligible Uses: This program solicits proposals to connect remote and isolated electric microgrids in Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. territories to each other and to larger operating transmission systems. The program aims to improve grid reliability and resilience and expand energy access in target locations.
Eligible projects are transmission projects that connect Isolated Microgrids to Infrastructure Corridors, as defined in the RFP, in Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. territories. Electric generation and distribution projects are not eligible.
DOE is accepting proposals for projects in a wide range of development stages, from initial planning to “shovel-ready” projects.
Amount: Up to $200M
Award Type: Public-private partnerships. Under this arrangement, DOE would be an equity partner in projects and provide both capital and technical assistance. DOE may “participate with an Applicant in designing, developing, constructing, operating, maintaining, or owning an Eligible Project.”
Eligible Applicants: Eligible applicants include any entity seeking to carry out eligible microgrid connection projects in Alaska, Hawaii, or U.S. territories.
