The California Threatened and Endangered Species Program works to conserve and recover over 330 federally-listed and over 2,700 Bureau sensitive animal and plant species and their habitat on public lands in collaboration with other BLM programs and partners. The State office is looking for projects that are state or regional in scope or projects that provide a programmatic approach for improving the Bureau effectiveness or efficiency. The California program is looking for projects that will result in or facilitate national implementation or outreach of tangible on the ground actions that will improve species populations (numbers, representation, or resilience) or reduce population level threats.
The California Recreation and Visitor Services Program will work with eligible applicants to increase and enhance access to BLM public lands and waters; increase and enhance recreational opportunities; enhance public satisfaction at BLM recreation sites and areas; collect visitor and recreation resource data by conducting inventories and visitor assessments; conduct inventory, monitoring, data management, assessment and planning on BLM public lands and waters; locate, inventory, monitor, survey, and nominate significant caves on BLM public lands; provide enriched visitor services, information, interpretation and education, including websites.
The California Plant Conservation and Restoration Management Program will advance the Department of the Interior's priorities to address the climate crisis, restore balance on public lands and waters, advance environmental justice, and invest in a clean energy future. In 2023, the California BLM is focusing work in areas to facilitate meeting the priorities of the Administration, Secretary, Congressional appropriations, and the Bureau in implementing the National Seed Strategy (www.blm.gov/seedstrategy). Specific BLM California Plant Conservation and Restoration Program areas of emphasis to implement the Department priorities include, but are not limited to those actions that: protect biodiversity; increase resilience to climate change and help leverage natural climate solutions; contribute to conserving at least 30 percent of our lands and waters by the year 2030; engage communities of color, low income families, and rural and indigenous communities to enhance economic opportunities related to native seed production and restoration; and use the best science and data available to make decisions.
