Overview and Eligible Uses:
The BLM Arizona State Office's Plant Conservation and Restoration Program focuses on preserving and restoring native plant communities across public lands, with an emphasis on native forbs and grasses for wildlife habitat restoration and post-wildfire rehabilitation. The program supports the National Native Seed Strategy and works with partners to increase the availability of genetically diverse, locally sourced seeds for landscape-scale restoration projects. By prioritizing biodiversity, resilience to climate change, and environmental justice, the program supports habitat management for keystone species and pollinators, promotes conservation and ecological studies, and engages with communities through education and outreach. It also aids other BLM programs in restoring public lands and advancing sustainable ecosystem management.
The Arizona Invasive and Noxious Plant Management Program aims to maintain the health of native landscapes by controlling noxious weeds and invasive species. Key goals include inventorying and documenting weed locations, implementing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for effective control, and using targeted herbicides. The program focuses on stabilizing and rehabilitating disturbed areas, prioritizing target species for control, and monitoring treatment effectiveness. Through adaptive management, it addresses new weed species and treatments, and promotes public education and engagement in resource management.
The Arizona Wildlife Program aims to administer program activities that support maintaining functioning wildlife habitats, developing, and implementing restoration projects, and the inventory and monitoring of priority habitats and specific to track trends on public lands. Key objectives of this program include supporting projects that address wildlife habitat restoration, addressing habitat land health standards, and improving habitat connectivity supporting wildlife migration, addressing data gaps tied to public lands, inventorying priority wildlife species, and identifying regional or landscape restoration opportunities that address or incorporate priority habitat desired outcomes.
