Bureau of Land Management Announces $700K for Alaska Recreation and Visitor Services Program

Opportunity: IIJA/IRA Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Alaska Recreation and Visitor Services Program
Overview and Eligible Uses: The BLM Recreation and Visitor Services Program oversees a broad set of recreation related programs providing for recreational opportunities and experiences. These recreational resources and visitor services support strong local economies and public land conservation.
BLM Alaska has an opportunity to work with partner organizations to assist with activities such as, but not limited to, the following:
increasing and enhancing access to BLM public lands and waters and recreational opportunities,
collect visitor and recreation data by conducting inventories and visitor assessment,
Provide enriched visitor services, information, interpretation and education, including websites,
Protect visitor health and safety,
Improve accessibility for persons with disabilities,
Enhance community-supported partnerships in tourism, marketing, and conservation,
Strengthen relationships with sovereign Tribal nations by elevating indigenous voices on public lands,
Develop and offer training and education, including workshops and webinars, and
Advancing responsible recreational values.
This funding opportunity has three goals:
Connect with youth, tribes, and underserved, and nature-deprived communities to enhance access to quality recreation opportunities and foster public lands stewardship
Improve climate resiliency on public lands while enhancing outdoor recreation opportunities and activities
Identify and remove outdoor recreation barriers, expand recreation opportunities for all, and provide an enhanced, more sustainable recreational experience by delivering up-to-date and engaging visitor information online and in person.
Amount: BLM anticipates funding 5 awards between $5K and $375K.
Award Type: Cooperative Agreement
Eligible Applicants: Independent school districts, special district governments, private institutions of higher education, public and state controlled institutions of higher education, nonprofits, Native American tribal governments and organizations, public housing authorities/Indian housing authorities, state governments, county governments, city or township governments
Key Dates: Applications must be submitted by 5:00 pm ET on December 1, 2023.
