BLM Opens $500K for FY25 Aquatic Resource Management

Opportunity: FY25 IIJA/IRA Bureau of Land Management Headquarters (HQ) Aquatic Resource Management
Overview and Eligible Uses: The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Headquarters Aquatic Resources Program has launched a new grant initiative aimed at advancing the restoration, protection, and sustainable management of aquatic habitats and water resources on public lands. This program supports projects that align with BLM’s mission to ensure healthy and productive ecosystems for future generations, addressing critical issues such as habitat degradation, water availability, drought resilience, and the impacts of climate change. Funded through provisions of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act, this initiative focuses on implementing process-based approaches to ecosystem restoration, enhancing climate resilience, and fostering collaboration among federal, state, tribal, and local stakeholders.
Grant funding may be used for a variety of activities, including:
Restoring riparian, wetland, and aquatic habitats to support biodiversity and ecosystem function.
Enhancing water quality and availability for ecological and public uses.
Implementing measures to combat habitat fragmentation, invasive species, and climate change impacts.
Advancing inventory, assessment, and monitoring of aquatic resources to inform decision-making.
Increasing public engagement and education about aquatic ecosystems, with a focus on underserved and marginalized communities.
Improving ecosystem resilience to drought, wildfire, and flood events through sustainable management practices.
This program seeks innovative, science-based projects that integrate environmental stewardship with community collaboration to achieve long-term ecological and social benefits.
