NOAA Launches $16M Marine Debris Challenge Competition

While this award requires partnering with a Sea Grant program, it has broad applicability and applicants are eligible if they apply in partnership with a Sea Grant program. As such, this can be a great opportunity to bring in important research dollars.
Opportunity: Marine Debris Challenge Competition (NOAA)
Overview and Eligible Uses: The Marine Debris Challenge Competition is designed to support innovative, transformational research to application projects that will address the prevention and/or removal of marine debris. Proposals are sought that will build upon and extend existing knowledge and efforts related to marine debris; support broad, non-proprietary, and innovative research to address critical gaps with respect to marine debris; and make that information available to communities and stakeholders.
Amount: 5-12 awards between $1M - $3M, up to a total of $16M will be made in FY2022 and FY2023.
Type: Competitive grant
Eligible Applicants: Sea Grant College Programs, Sea Grant Institutional Programs, and Sea Grant Coherent Area Programs. A Sea Grant program may submit or participate in more than one proposal. Other interested entities must submit proposals in partnership with and through a relevant Sea Grant program. Please note that it is not a requirement that investigators, including the PI, are part of a Sea Grant program; however proposals must be submitted with and through a Sea Grant program.
Key Dates: Letters of intent must be submitted to NSGO by August 9, 2022.
Applications must be submitted to Grants.gov by September 30, 2022.
